PROTESTS BY CANDIDATES OF THE ARMED FORCES AGAINST THE CENTRE'S NEW MILITARY RECRUITMENT SCHEME 'AGNEEPATH' HAVE INTENSIFIED IN MANY PARTS OF THE COUNTRY.
INCIDENTS OF VIOLENCE HAVE BEEN REPORTED FROM MORE THAN 10 STATES INCLUDING BIHAR, UTTAR PRADESH, DELHI, TELANGANA, WEST BENGAL AND RAJASTHAN.

Marshal VR Choudhary said that the Air Force will start the selection process
under the new model on June 24. Earlier, Army Chief General Manoj Pandey
said that the first Agniveer of the Army would start training at the recruitment
centers by the end of this year.
One killed in firing in Secunderabad
5. : Metro rail services were temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure
amid protests in Telangana capital Hyderabad city. One person died at
Secunderabad railway station in firing by police to control the crowd.
A senior official told Hindustan Times, “The General Railway Police (GRP)
personnel were forced to open fire on the crowd after lathi-charged and fired
tear gas shells.”
The opposition targeted the Modi government,
in protest against the Agneepath scheme, the opposition parties attacked the
Modi government.
Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), allies in the ruling Maha
Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra, termed the scheme as a
cruel joke with unemployed youth.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said that the BJP thinks that people go to the army
for jobs, in fact, youths go to the army with the feeling of patriotism, but what
do they know who have not even participated in the freedom movement.
6. On the other hand, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi has fiercely cursed the
Modi government for the new scheme of recruitment in the army, Agneepath.
Holding the Modi government responsible for the violence in many parts of the
country regarding Agneepath, Owaisi has appealed to the PM to withdraw this
scheme.
Didn't expect that much opposition would
have to be faced: Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar's big statement of
opposition to the Agneepath plan came out. The Navy chief said he did not
expect such widespread violent protests over the plan.
Talking to news agency ANI, the Navy Chief said, 'I did not expect any such
protest. We worked on the Agneepath scheme for about one and a half
years…'.
Defense Minister, Home Minister tried to address the concerns of the
youth
7. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief of
Army Staff General Manoj Pandey tried to allay the concerns about the
recruitment scheme but angry youths created a ruckus in the railway premises
at many places carrying bricks, sticks and various Highways were blocked in
cities and towns. Railway officials said that 340 train operations were affected
and 234 trains have been canceled so far.
Officials said that the protesters have so far torched the coaches of seven
trains. The protesters damaged coaches of three moving trains in the East
Central Railway (ECR) zone and an empty bogie at Kulharia in the same
zone.
He said a bogie of a train standing in a queue for washing in Uttar Pradesh's
Ballia was also damaged. So far 64 trains have been stopped before the
destination in the ECR zone.
