DUNYA NEWS NETWORK by business is an organization dealing in the sector of
television broadcasting. Dramas, news, programs, talk shows, music shows etc. are the
basic product of DUNYA NEWS NETWORK. DUNYA NEWS NETWORK sells its time
to generate revenue. The revenue is generated by playing commercials during the break
time of programs. DUNYA NEWS NETWORK has a contribution towards the economic
development indirectly. The managing director of DUNYA NEWS NETWORK is MIAN
AMIR MEHMOOD.
I have done my internship at DUNYA NEWS NETWORK headquarter in Lahore News
Programming Department. During my internship, I had to perform various tasks which are a
part of daily work. I started my work with understanding the work of programming
department by observing employees. I have been assigned a Socio-Political show and first
task I have been given was a research. The second task is based on script. Third task was the
preparation of production plan, Forth task was shoot and shoot arrangements and
Preproduction and Fifth Final task was Postproduction (Editing).
During my internship, I have learned a lot of skills that shall be helpful for me in practical
work. I have improved my communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, team
work, and confidence level a lot. During my internship, I came to know that DUNYA NEWS
NETWORK is a very idea of channel that defends the cultural norms, values of our country.
It is rapidly moving towards growth and is the market leader currently. I have observed that
DUNYA NEWS NETWORK lacks in having a proper system for recruiting and selection of

Chapter 1.A: introduction of Dunya Media Group
1.1 Brief history:
Dunya Media group, under the umbrella of PGC network, is operating a leading TV
News Channel and a daily newspaper nationwide, Dunya TV was launched on December 1st
2008 Dunya News began transmission on 1 January 2010. The channel is known for a center-
right news policy orientation which mirrors the majority of socio-political-economic views of the
Pakistani people. However, at the same time the channel is known for an unbiased approach
towards news, and (unlike some competitors) has stayed away from serious controversy. Dunya
TV also broadcasts in United Kingdom, Middle East and United States. Dunya News has state-
of-the-art technology, designed to meet the challenges of today's dynamic news environment.
Dunya News is known for quality programming, and relies upon veritable heavy-weights of
Pakistani media to settle its position as a reputable media outlet. The owner of the Dunya Media
group is Mian Amir Mehmood. Under the one roof two channels are working. (Lahore News &
Dunya news) and one press is roznama dunya
1.2 Introduction of the organization
The media in the whole world play pivotal role to create an awareness among the masses,
which covers all the aspects of life, whether they are related to, economic, social, and political or
recreation. It is the media, which has brought the world so closer that now it is termed as the
Global Village and it gave a new concept of Globalization and opened a new era of advancement
in other fields Dunya Media Group continues to provide most authentic, reliable and timely news
services to its audience all over Pakistan, through news bulletins and flagship programs, with its
bureaus in all major cities of Pakistan, and the largest number of Out-Station Reporters. Dunya
News have powerful and comprehensive news production system. All bureaus are connected live
24/7 through satellite and fiber optics. It gives its media coverage all over the country and
generates its revenue by the ads that are being played during various programs. There is a fleet

News have the widest distribution on cable systems in Pakistan with the reach of more than 120
million individuals.

• Marketing & sales department
The marketing division is, finding commercial items for it to generate revenue for the
organization. This department is major source of’ Dunya media Group department has been
expanding itself as much as increase in viewer ship and broadcast. The central marketing office
is in Lahore whereas regional offices are functioning at all centers of Karachi, Islamabad, and
Peshawar
• Finance department
The Finance department of Dunya TV deals with activities that are concerned with (RAE)
Recording, Analyzing and Evaluating of all transaction that are done with money. The Finance

department has a work to set budgets. The basic work of Finance department is at headquarters
as the income is only generated there. At centers only expenses are done which are to be
recorded by the Finance department.
• Admin department
The department of admin is very actively working at DUNYA TV. This department is
working in two fields, first is administration in administration the department is responsible for
formulation and implementation of administrative policies to have coordination with other
centers, for overseeing administrative service, formulation of DUNYA TV employee service
rules and for making further amendments in the rule as and when required.
• IT/engineering department
The department of information technology is also called as engineering department in
DUNYA TV. That department takes care of the day to day operations and maintenances of
DUNYA TV centers and broadcast. That department plays a major role in bringing, controlling
and maintaining new technology as time required in the organization
• Programs department
DUNYA TV in the role to fulfill its broad and main objective, DUNYA TV has to telecast
various types of international and national matters that are of interest for its viewers. It is being
the main objective of DUNYA TV to educate its viewer about the values and norms that are
vitally important in formation of a united integrated, disciplined and peaceful society in the light
of Islamic teachings. These objectives have been achieved by DUNYA TV by showing various
types of programs regarding religion, education, entertainment, culture social, political and
sports etc. so we can say that, the programs are the main source for DUNYA TV to achieve its
goals. So for the making these programs more efficient and to the point DUNYA TV has a
specific department for this purpose named as programs.

• News department
The basic function of news department at DUNYA TV is to inform its viewers around the
country with the recent incident taking place in the country. It includes providing the views the
information of latest news worthy happening on national and international levels.
• Camera department
DUNYA TV gets its major income by selling its programs by placing ads of different
brands or other organizations. So, the record these programs DUNYA TV meet camera
department in which the all recordings assets are saved. The department is responsible for the
giving a quality videos of all programs
1.2.5 Comments on the organizational structure: -
The structure of the Dunya Media Group is well Defined, Sophisticated & a very
Cooperating Environment has been shown in the organization, DUNYA TV has basically a
normal level of span of control which means there are only a reasonable number of employees
under one head. It is centralized structure where decisions are basically made by higher
management. The departmentalization is done based on function they perform or work they do.
1.3 Plan of your internship program
I have worked as intern at Dunya News Network for the duration of 6-7 weeks. I have
learned a lot about practical life from Dunya NEWS Network which I have mentioned in this
learning report. The purpose of my internship was to learn a practical experience while working
in that particular organization, especially, the knowledge related to the Programming
Department of Dunya News Network. It has really helped me to observe as to what extent the
text book knowledge is being practiced in real life working field.
1.3.1 Introduction of the branch/ area office of the Organization: -
Dunya news Network has 12 branches in all over Pakistan. I have done my internship in
the head office of the Dunya Media Group located on (8-A, Abbot Road, Lahore).

My dates of the Internship are from 04 June 2018 to 30 August 2018 September.
1.3.3 Names of the departments in which you got training and the duration of your training
I had got my training in the programming department Dunya Media Group, I used to
work 8 hours a day there 6 days a week for more than a month. Which perform several duties to
maintain organization employee records.
Chapter 2: Internship program
2.1 Operations/activities performed by the department
Programming department
Programming department is responsible for:
Making programs like dramas, music, infotainment, entertainment, political talk shows,
social issue based, sociopolitical, crime, religious, and miscellaneous programs.
The director programming heads this department whereas executive programming manager is
the person in charge.
The programming department, in conjunction with the production and news departments,
acquires and schedules the product that the audience consumes, which in turn allows the
sales department to create revenue, which in turn allows the general administration
department to facilitate station operations.
The programming department is responsible for filling the entire broadcast day with
programming and is therefore saddled with arguably the most challenging job in television.
Consequently, this department also works closely with the traffic department in structuring
the daily programming schedule.

Programming is second only to general administration in terms of operating expenses. The
department, if its station is affiliated with a network, needs almost 25 percent of the total
budget of the station to function. However, an independent station may give as much as half
of its total operating budget to the acquisition of programs.

Television producers are creative masterminds who bring together all the major aspects
of a scripted show, reality program or news broadcast.
Many job descriptions fall under the producer title, but the role’s traditional responsibility is to
oversee a product production end-to-end operations. Producers secure funding, set the budget,
monitor schedules and are ultimately the ones responsible for a program’s success or failure.
It’s a high-stakes job with demanding deadlines and erratic work schedules, but seeing your
name in the credits is worth it.

makes an impression on viewers.
Troubleshooting skills: Producers must be able to quickly problem-solve any production or
staffing issues that may arise.

Week 1
I have been assigned a socio-political program and crime show to assist, twice in a
week show of Lahore news, the Producer of the show (team leader) assigned research
work regarding the show. I worked as a researcher throughout the week.

The second week based on analysis of research data whatever I have searched during first
week, I also been assigned to try to write a script of three socio-political program and
crime shows on the basis of research data.

During Third week I have learnt how to plan shoot (recording) and how to prepare a production

I have given a task of shoot arrangements and through coordination with concern
departments (cameramen department, transport departments) and guests of shows.

Learned about Studio Lightning
The technique uses three lights called the front light, back light and fill light.
Front light
This is the main light. It is usually the strongest and has the most influence on the
look of the scene. It is placed to front side of the camera/subject so that this side is well lit
and the other side has some shadow
Back light
The back light is placed behind the subject and lights it from the rear. This helps
separate the subject from the background and provide a three-dimensional look.
Fill light
This is the secondary light and is placed on the opposite side of the key light. It is
used to fill the shadows created by the front. The fill will usually be softer and less bright
than the front.
Learned about Framing
Extreme wide shot
In the EWS, the view is so far from the subject that he isn't even visible. The point of
this shot is to show the subject's surroundings. The EWS is often used as an establishing shot
Very wide shot
The VWS is much closer to the subject. He is (just) visible here, but the emphasis
is still on placing him in his environment. This also works as an establishing shot.

In the WS, the subject takes up the full frame. In this case, the boy's feet are almost at
the bottom of frame, and his head is almost at the top

The MS shows some part of the subject in more detail, whilst still showing enough for

Medium close up
Half way between a MS and a CU. This shot shows the face more clearly, without
getting uncomfortably close
Close-up
In the CU, a certain feature or part of the subject takes up the whole frame. A close up of
a person usually means a close up of their face.
Extreme close-up
The ECU gets right in and shows extreme detail. For people, the ECU is used to convey

A cutaway is a shot that's usually of something other than the current action. It could be a

Look room is the space that you leave in front of someone’s face on the screen. This
space gives the person room to breathe, as well as gives the impression that the person is
looking at or talking to someone just off screen. If you don’t leave enough look room, your
subject will appear to be boxed-in and confined.

Headroom is another element you should consider when framing your subject.
Headroom is the amount of space between the top of someone’s head and the top of the
frame.
SOT
In TV show or in news package the statement on camera of a person is called SOT.
Links of show
The information presented by Anchor according to the script of upcoming visuals at
screen are called links of show/program. It may live or recorded. News casting is an example
of live and socio-crime shows are recorded examples.
Sync
Sync, short for "synchronize," is a verb for making things work together. When you lip-sync,
you are moving your mouth to exactly match someone else's words spoken or sung at
precisely the same time. many producers capture important events with multiple cameras, this
not only ensures that if one camera misses some critical action, it will be caught by another,
but it also makes for much more better production. One plus one interviews are biggest
example of camera sync and all this work be done by video editor.
Voice-over
On a television program, film, or advertisement, the spoken words of a person that
you cannot see.

Other learning experiences
Experience of Script Writing of Socio-political Show: Got the experience
of script writing after research of assigned topic.
Coordination: I also learned how to coordinate with different departments
(camera dept. editing dept. transport dept. and studio management, also
learned how to arrange guests panel for show. Timing keeps huge worth in
production and all based on perfect coordination.
Knowledge Gained: got the opportunity to work in the post production
department for the editing of the programs

Recommendations
• Internees should not only be allowed to ‘’observe’’ but also allowed to use
equipment for better understanding and learning.
• There should be proper check and balance on internees, as to their timings and work.
• Each producer should be assigned equal number of internees so that every internee
is able to work properly and the producer is also able to give maximum time to
each internee.

PEST is a tool for scanning a general environment. PEST stands for Political,
Economic, Social-cultural and Technical environment). PEST is a useful strategic planning
tool which helps to identify changes in competitive business environment. Here I am going to
do the SWOT analysis of Dunya Media Group.
3.2.1 Political
Political factors bring threat to the Dunya Media Group. The Dunya Media Group has
a global presence in terms of news reporting and broadcasting. Therefore, the diverse geo-
political l environment can itself be consider as a political threat for the Dunya Media Group
because not all fairly reported news is acceptable for those diverse group of people. Truth is
always bitter, people do not want to hear anything bad about them, even though that is truth
or fairly reported news. And same things happen in case of government too. Another political
threat of the Dunya Media Group comes from news collection. The life of the news reporter
is always at risk in some countries of the world. Extrusion, intimidation, abduction, and
kidnapping are common problem or threat to the news reporter around the world mainly from
active terrorist group. However, In case of domestic market political environment possess
comparatively low degree of threat.
3.2.2 Economic
One of the major economic threats for the Dunya Media Group in domestic and
international market is economic recession. World economy is facing a severe economic
downturn because of that consumers are curtailing their expenses. Therefore, most notably
customers are decreasing their entertainment expenses and leisure time expense which is
domestic threat to the Dunya Media Group.

One of the major socio-cultural threats in domestic and International market is huge
culture l diversity with multi religion and multi-language among the people. Though Dunya
Media Group broadcast only in Urdu language, it cannot run all its programs on all of the
language speak in the country simultaneously to satisfy all kinds of people who believe in
different culture and like
to speak their own language. Besides this socio-cultural threat for the Dunya Media Group in
terms of news collecting and reporting is that not all people in the world speak and
understand Urdu language creating the need of language interpretation which is not always
easy.
3.2.4 Technological
As with the passage of time there would be more & more innovation in the
technologies before private media groups in the country only one news channel named as
Pakistan Television network operates a news channel with the latest technology present then
in later 90’s. Similarly, when the Private media group jump in the country they introduce the
most innovative technologies such as satellite T.V, Whereas Dunya Media Group is having
the most Diverse Technology according to International Standards compared to other news
channels. Dunya Media Group is investing a lot day by day to make its Technology fully
centralized & more Innovative.
Chapter 4: Conclusion and recommendations
4.1 Conclusion
This report is a true reflection of our learning in Dunya Media Group from starting to
end. Dunya media group is big organization and it has different departments performing
different functions so it is almost impossible to go through all departments within just 6-
weeks) Although my area of concentration was Finance department division only but this

also requires a long period of time to go through all sub-sections of Finance department but
within this specified I tried to get as much as possible through discussion and doing practical
works. We also learn about their working activities and functions which are performed in
Dunya News departments.
4.2 Recommendations

There should be design an effective training course for officials by learning management
system.
➢
There should be on the job training for existing employees, so they enhance the
productivity in effective manner.
➢
They need to establish more training centers. Due to lack resources, it is difficult, to
manage employees in other training centers with same term and conditions of the
organization.
➢
The promotional criteria by the Finance department should be made for all employees'
level.
➢
The promotional criteria & procedures of the Finance department should be justified with
respect to performance of employees.
➢
Dunya Media Group HR & Admin department have a huge burden of data recording
that's why they need to store their all the record on system and networking should be
done so that employees will be able to share information in their offices and save lot of
time in this way and all the data is available in every computer.
➢ The need to facilitate their officials/employees and their top management needs to
involve them in decision making.
