Meaning
Constructivism is the idea that learning doesn’t just
happen by the traditional methods of teachers
Constructivism is child centered rather then curriculum
based. It focused on knowledge construction, not
knowledge reproduction.
It is a belief that one constructs knowledge from one’s
experience.
Constructivism is a learning theory not a teaching

“Constructivism is an epistemology, a learning or meaning-making theory that
offers an explanation of the nature of knowledge and how humans learn. It maintains
that individuals create or construct their own understandings or knowledge
through the interactions and activities with which they have contact”.

Pedagogical approaches to
constructivism

Learning involved combining what we know with what
was taught, or continually connecting prior knowledge with new
information.
Teacher needs to surface students’ prior knowledge,
connect to it and allow students to build from and onto their
prior knowledge.
Teacher education programmers can assist pre- service
teachers in constructing a deep understanding of disciplinary
content from a teaching perspective.TCP PRESENTO 2020, THIAGARAJAR COLLEGE OF PRECEPTORS, MADURAI.
The broader knowledge base for teaching, which
included content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge
(PCK), curriculum knowledge, general pedagogy, learners and
their characteristics, educational contexts and educational
purposes involves the transformation of content knowledge by
teacher in different ways that allow the learners to construct
knowledge during classroom practice.

XLack of teacher preparation for constructivist classrooms
XDifficult to break the cycle of those who have been taught in
a classroomwhere they were expected to solely absorb
information.
XUnless the teacher remains disciplined in the use of such
materials , the classroomexperience can develop into
entertainment.
