1. Mass Media
Media is the plural form of the word medium. And it
refers to the different ways. In which we can
communicate in the society. The term mass media
is used for these public communication. Everything
ranging from a public meeting to the programmes
you watch on t.v. is termed as media. While letters.
E-mails and internet are means of personal
communication, newspaper, magazine, t.v., radio
and films are means of mass communication as they
reach a large audience.
Over the years, the technology changed and print
media became the new means of communication.
The priniting press introduced by johannes
gutenberg in 1453 marked the begning of the
revolution in the way the world recived printing
information. Newspaper were also introduced but
they became esaily available to the masses only in
the nineteenth century. During the twentieth

2. century, the growth of mass media was driven by
technology that allowed massive duplication of
material. Technologies such as printing, record
pressing and film duplication led to the duplocation
of books, newspaper and films at low prices for a
large no. of people. Radio and t.v. entered of mass
media as electronic which could duplicate
information electronically. All india radio, now
known as akashvani is the radio boardcaster of the
govt. of india.
In the last twenty years, we have seen further
technological growth in electronic media. Internet,
DTH, HPC(international internet protocol) and cable
t.v. are the new buzz words which have reahed a
large no. of people and are still growing.Technology
not only improves the quality but also brings
channge in our thinking. today we cannot imagine a
life without t.v., mobiles and internet. These unable
us to think of ourselves as a member of global
world. Telphones have shortened the distance

3. across the world. The t.v. and internet which use
satellite and cable technology have helped to bring
images from across the globe of our home. One can
view the different channels which are aired from
different countries. For example:- most of the
cartoon shows on t.v. are either from japan or the
united states.
