Short PPT exhibiting some of my laser CNC (using a CNC I designed and built myself from scratch) and laser projection work.

1. Laser CNC
Designing and building a laser CNC for a tight workspace, and then putting it to
extensive use for the Boy Scouts…

2. LASERCNC
Building my own laser CNC machine from scratch is one of the most useful
things I’ve ever done. One of the toughest parameters I had to meet was a very
shallow cabinet depth. This was solved with a 60-degree angle on the table
coupled with a pulley and counterbalance in the gantry. Many awards later, this
machine still performs well.

3. LASERCNC
After the initial build and cabinet installation with appropriate outside
ventilation, the Laser CNC has proven a valuable asset. Most of the work from
this machine has been in the form of awards, name tags, and plaques for the
scouting organization.

4. LASERCNC
On occasion, other unusual projects have
come my way. One was making gumball
machine, and another was a Kalimba. At
one point, I engraved monetary tokens for
a board game. The versatility in not only
engraving, but in marking complex wood
projects with a high level of precision has
proven invaluable over the years.

5. LASERCNC
Additional projects of interest include a set
of dice used in a religious education program,
a code wheel that was used for an escape
room, a notebook for a corporate team, a
thank you for a performer, and a sign used in
car shows.

6. Laser Projection
Working with Pangolin Laser and the K’Vant projectors has been extremely
rewarding and interesting…

7. Not surprisingly, capturing a photograph of a laser projection is tricky.
Nonetheless, coupled with a full DMX control array, one can pull off some
incredibly alluring effects and choreography using a good package such as
Pangolin Beyond. One of the more interesting things to do with a projector is to
make an optical microscope with a syringe.

8. I have a genuine passion for laser technologies, from CNC to projection to
medical, welding, and additive manufacturing with metals (such as Selective
Laser Sintering – SLS, and Direct Weld Laser Sintering – DMLS).
It seems I can never get enough knowledge surrounding the use and application
of laser tech, and I am always seeking new and interesting ways to apply this in
the real world.
