Construction steel bars are normally cut using chisel and hammer which
is time consuming.
Machines available are costly
Machines are heavy and not portable
4. Problem Definition
Conventional methods of bar cutting are as follows :
Bar cutting by mechanical shear.
Bar cutting by abrasive cutter.
Bar cutting by mechanical hacksaw/band saw.
Using the mechanical shear poses some problems as listed below
Leverage required for bending heavy sections is large , hence tremendous amount of human effort is
necessary.
Labor cost is more.
Time consuming, in terms of setting time ad operation time.
Space occupied is more.
Quality is not good.
Defects in the form of angular deformation, and wrinkles are seen.
Conventional mechanical process is replaced by the hydraulic system which offers many benefits
SOLUTION:
Hydraulic bar cutting machine is an perfect solution to the above problem where in bending
force is generated is quite large about (5 ton) with a minimal human effort
The hydraulic bar cutting machine uses an hydraulic jack in conjunction with the high
speed tool cutting mechanism to apply gradual force upto 5000kg . The load in cutting will depend upon
the section of bar to be cut.
Loading is done by operating handle of the jack which carries the cutting action , resulting
into an safe and damage free operation.
5. INOVTIVENESS & USEFULNES
Solution :
Simple but high capacity machine uses hydraulic jack system
with twin blade cutter to shear the bar with quick spring return
to save time.
6. CONSTRUCTION
The Hydraulic pipe bending machine consists of the following parts :
Base Plate
Base Plate is the base member of the machine . The entire assembly of the machine is
done on to the base plate. Base plate is structural steel (EN9). The pillars are mounted
on to the base plate using Socket head bolts M8.
LH_ Pillar
LH_Pillar is an structural steel (EN9 vertical member of the structure of the press which
is held on to the base plate using Socket head bolts M8.
RH_Pillar
RH_Pillar is an structural steel (EN9 vertical member of the structure of the press
which is held on to the base plate using Socket head bolts M8.
Top Fix Plate:Top plate is structural steel (EN9 horizontal member of the structure of
the press which is held on to the top of the LH & RH_ Pillars and held in place by using
Spring washer, M20 Hex nut, and Lock nut.
Return Spring
Return springs are attached to the ram of the jack which provide the automatic return
after bending operation is over.
Fixed tool holder
The fixed tool holder is fixed on to the top plate, it carries the HSS tool bit.
Movable tool holder :
The fixed tool holder is fixed on to the hydraulic ram, it carries the HSS tool bit.
Hydraulic Jack
Hydraulic jack is 3000 kg capacity with the following parts:
Release valve
Base
Adjusting screw
Ram
Cylinder
Oil Tight tank
Top Cap
Pump Body
Pump Plunger
Safe valve
Handle.
