Verbs to do with
“Stealing”
LOOT
(usually of large number of people during a violent event)
 To steal from shops and houses.
 Example:
During the riot, shops were looted and cars damaged.
ROB
 To take money or property illegally from a place, organization, or
person, often using violence.
 Examples:
The gang robbed three Banks over a period of six months.
He has been robbed of his wallet and car key.
BURGLE
 To enter a building illegally and steal things.
 Examples:
The house was burgled while they were all sleeping.
On their return they discovered that their house had been burgled.
PINCH
 To steal or take something without permission.
 Example:
I saw my little sister pinching my mother’s credit card from her wallet.
pilfer
 To steal things of small value.
 Examples:
My dog has just pilfered my slices of bread for my sandwich.
She pilfered a chocolate bar from the Candy shop.
