3. NAPOLEON: FROM CONSUL TO EMPEROR
Napoleon was named consul in
1799 of the new political system.
Napoleon represented the
interests of the moderate
bourgeoisie. The moderate
bourgeoisie was the group with
the most significant
representation in the Parliament
and held centrist positions (they
favoured a constitutional
monarchy with limited powers to
remedy social ills).
4. THE NAPOLEONIC CODE
Another important achievement of his government was the
creation of the French Civil Code, known worldwide as the
Napoleonic or Napoleonic Code, which brought together
principles of Roman law, royal orders and the civil and criminal
legislation in force during the French Revolution
