1. 7 Step Salary Negotiation
for Women
#1. KNOW WHAT YOU ARE ASKING FOR.
Let's face it. What's the point of leaning in if you don't
know what you are asking for? Do you know your
market value in today's market? Shameless plug for
www.salarycoaching.com.
#4. UNDERSTAND YOUR JOB
What has changed in your position description since your
last review? Have you gained new responsibilities? More
duties? Have you acquired new skills that are relevant to
the job?
#5. DON'T ANTAGONIZE 'EM.
"I need you to give me a raise because I'm worth it." sounds
very different than "I need your help. I haven't been tracking my
market value as closely as I probably should have. Can we work
together to get me to $XX salary?" The first approach here is
guaranteed to get you sub-optimal results.
#6. BRACE FOR "NO."
Too often a "no" shuts us down from ever asking again. Prepare for this
worst case scenario and realize that a "no" now isn't a "no" forever. If
your Boss says "No" try: "I understand (... regurgitate the stated reason).
What would it take to get me to that rate? Can we work together towards
it and set a timeline?" Partner/ally with your Boss.
#7. BECOME AN AWARENESS NINJA
Use your words and body language to build rapport with
your boss and colleagues. Use clothing and gestures
deliberately. Learn to read the body queues of others as
well. Mastering non-verbals will allow you to get your
way in any type of negotiation!

#2. BACK YOUR "ASK" WITH DATA
RELEVANT TO YOUR BOSS.
How have you positively impacted the company's
bottomline over the past year? Did you generate
massive savings, cut costs or increase efficiency
anywhere?
#3. PICK GOOD TIMING.
Try planning in advance, but re-asses if the mood isn't
right. If your Boss is having a bad day, you ain't getting
far. Listen to your intuition!
