In these slides I aim to assist anyone looking to teach English as a second language with some tips on how to approach lessons

2. WHY IS THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN DEMAND
• English is considered to be a global language, the language has garnered
worldwide acceptance. By virtue of being spoken in most countries of the world,
English is the language that is usually capable of bringing people from different
countries and cultures together.
• Consequently, if one is to become a global citizen, they most likely have to learn
English
• Although this is not important, most critically acclaimed movies, series, literature
and popular culture all together is usually in the English language

3. TEACHING ENGLISH TO L2 STUDENTS
• One of the most important things to remember when teaching English to L2
learners is to make things visual. This is because people who are learning English
as a second language will learn better and quicker if they can visualize what you
are teaching them, rather than having to imagine it in their heads. For example if
the lesson of the day is about places of shopping, health for example a hospital or
a clinic, it is better to show them a picture of a hospital rather than just teaching
them the word hospital.
• Encourage mnemonic devices to help them memorize things.

4. VOCABULARY
• It is important that you don’t dwell on bombastic vocabulary words. Start with
everyday words that they are most likely to use.
• Group the words into the different categories, i.e.. Verbs, Pronouns, Proper nouns
etc.
