Are you practicing or exploring feminist facilitation yourself, or are you interested to do so?
Join us on a journey from a conceptual understanding of feminism, leadership and facilitation to how we can apply these in practice as professional facilitators and as leaders more broadly.

Facilitation - Some definitions
“Facilitation is not business as usual. It is disrupting and challenging the normal
patterns of thinking and behaving so groups can discover something new or
different about themselves and the way they work.”( Viv McWaters -
Facilitator and trainer)
“The act of helping other people to deal with a process or reach an
agreement or solution without getting directly involved in the process,
discussion, etc. yourself” (Cambridge Dictionary)
"While facilitation traditionally means 'to make things easy' I think we need a
new definition that means 'to host the struggle together.' Good facilitators
help create a container for people to work with difference and diversity to
make good things happen." (Chris Corrigan -Process artist and
facilitator)

Feminism - some definitions
8
“Feminism is a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression. The fight to end sexism
must not neglect other forms of oppression such as racism, classism, imperialism and others. The
movement is not about being anti-male.” (bell hooks - writer and social activist)
“Feminism is the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities; [it is any]
organized activity in support of women's rights and interests” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)
"Feminism… has to involve a consciousness of more genders than we can even imagine, and more
sexualities than… we could name." (Angela Davis - political activist, academic, writer)
Feminism is “a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands,
kill their children, practise witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.” (Pat Robertson -
conservative Christian televangelist)
“Given the fact of our unjust privilege, men have an ethical obligation to work to eliminate that
privilege… and give up their unjust share of power. But self-sacrificing altruism isn’t a sufficient basis for
a political movement, and there are obvious ways that men will benefit from supporting feminism.”
(Michael Flood - academic and activist)
