CDW Helped Loan Servicing Business Save
MoreThan $2 Million by Consolidating Licenses
on the Oracle Database Appliance
CUSTOMER’S BUSINESS CHALLENGES
With a very successful loan servicing business, this organization was at the top of its
game. However, the company leadership wasn’t content to rest on its laurels and
developed a technology strategy to extend its core business. The company wanted to:
• Launch an initiative to create new revenue streams by developing a payment
processing platform offering customizable options so customers can manage
many different loans.
• Ensure that the new platform will provide 100% uptime, zero latency, payment card
industry (PCI) compliance, and enterprise-grade back-up and disaster recovery capabilities.
• Roll out the new platform to existing loan customers and then scale to add other
kinds of loans.
• Design the technology infrastructure with procurement, pricing, planning, and
deployment guidance from CDW following an original plan for 16 Cisco UCS Blades
as the underlying infrastructure.
• Find a much more cost-effective alternative to the Cisco Blades after the initial price
was estimated at more than $10 million for the Cisco hardware and Oracle licenses.
CDW’S ODA SOLUTION
Since the customer was in sticker shock about the estimated $10 million+ price tag
for the Cisco Blades and Oracle licenses, CDW recommended the Oracle Database
Appliance (ODA), powered by Intel®
Xeon®
processors, as an alternative because:
• The device could consolidate Oracle hardware and licenses, greatly reducing the
estimated cost.
• Oracle Linux was pre-installed on the device, which saved time since the company’s
IT team wouldn’t have to load it on each of the 16 Cisco Blades.
• Oracle VM was also built-in, which eliminated the need to purchase VMware as
originally planned.
• Oracle VM could also be used for hard partitioning, which further reduced licensing costs.
• It provided two hosts to triple mirror storage for better reliability and performance.
• The device was PCI-compliant, a requirement for the project.
• The ODAs will allow the customer to scale licenses and associated costs as the
new strategy and technology platform are rolled out to the marketplace.
