Data and information technoscientific are so
superabundant that even experts in a technical
field are not able to read and know…
The speed in the development of new materials
and products, new applications and technologies,
and trends are changing so fast that the
imperative need of "to be well informed" but
without "Irrelevant information overload " is
critical

Knowledge engineering is a recently developed
discipline that can process massive amounts of

The positive knowledge is knowledge about a given
subject that allows decisions correctly founded.

COSMETIC PRODUCTS: ANALYSIS OF TRENDS
Co-word analysis is a method used in knowledge discovery in
bibliographic databases.
Two actors, i.e. two words, two concepts, two
researchers, are interrelated when frequently
appear in the same documents. At the same
time, these two actors are associated with
others different actors and so on to form a
large technoscientific network.
2
The strength of the bond between two words i and j (or cij
other actors) is quantified with the equivalence index: eij
CED 2013
ci c j
When all words of all documents are compared an adjacency matrix is
obtained. This matrix represents the network of actors.

COSMETIC PRODUCTS: ANALYSIS OF TRENDS
Within the technoscientific network there are areas where the density of
links around some nodes is greater than in the rest of the network.
These areas consist on very connected nodes that are called centres of
interest, because they represent sets of relationships specially developed.

COSMETIC PRODUCTS: ANALYSIS OF TRENDS
When actors are words or concepts, the interest centres represent the
research topics or research themes that are relevant in the network of actors.
1) Density: Represents
the average intensity of
the links of a theme.
2) Centrality: Represents
how close to the centre
of the network is the
theme. It is measured by
the number of links of
CED 2013 this topic to rest of
technoscientific network.

Furthermore, in the coming years, research and development of
"cosmetic products" will be mainly focused on:
1. Analysis of water pollution of active ingredients in
pharmaceuticals and personal care products, such as
psychotropics, antibiotics, preservatives, and others.
2. Safety in the use of cosmetic products.
3. Study of the physicochemical and structural properties of
cosmetic ingredients to evaluate their activity. That is,
