2. John & Mary Henry’s YWAM Story
● Mary and I met in 1985 when we began
our training with YWAM.
● While leading a YWAM team to Peru in
1987, John began to discern God’s call
to mobilize university students into
nontraditional missions projects.
● We began leading YWAM internships
in 1989, founded the Student
Mobilization Centre in 1997, and began
developing Converge in 2012.
● We have 3 adult children; all have
served with YWAM.

Converge is a ministry of the Student Mobilization
Centre of YWAM’s University of the Nations.
Converge is missional internships for anyone who
wants to make a difference based on their search
criteria:
● Spiritual growth
● Professional interests
● Personal skills
We have also created ways for any christian to be
involved as mentors, donors, and hosts of interns,
and we created a new role for YWAMers as
internship coordinators.
● Our interns have helped missional
leaders:
○ Start businesses
○ Plant churches
○ Establish HIV/AIDS counseling clinics
○ Install water pumps and storage
facilities
○ Establish therapy routines for disabled
children in orphanages
○ Establish pharmacies with donated
drugs
○ Develop nutritional plans in hospices
○ Create curriculum for schools, including
forgiveness education in the Middle
East...

Why Converge?
9. Amy was a nursing student at the
University of Virginia. Her YWAM
internship experience in Kenya led
her to become a full time nurse.
Amy’s YWAM Internship Story
Amy focuses on healing through
systemic changes in healthcare.
She completed her Master’s in
Public Health.
10. Matt did our primary health care
internship in Jamaica and then led
another YWAM internship team to the
Amazons, with credit for two elective
rotations in tropical medicine at
Jefferson Medical School. He later
served as a medical missions doctor in
Kazakhstan for over 10 years.

As a doctor, Matt now trains other medical missions
professionals impacting the lives of thousands more around the
world at In His Image in Tulsa, OK.
11. Xian, a Carnegie-Mellon Engineering
student interned with us in East Timor. He
said: “My experience left an indelible mark
on me.” The internship led him to start a
company called D.light Design, a global
leader and pioneer in delivering affordable
solar-powered solutions for people in the
developing world and has transformed the
lives of over 100 million people.

Tamara’s YWAM Internship Story
In 2018 Tamara completed a seven month Peacemaking
internship in Lebanon. She said, “This internship really changed

1. Help us certify 75 YWAM Internship Coordinators. (25 will be done in 2020)
2. Support our enrollment of 75 missional organizations to host 100+
internship participants. (25 sessions with 115 spots in 7 countries in
portfolio now)
3. Launch our Portuguese, Korean, and French translation efforts.
4. Sponsor our memberships and professional certifications with the Forum
on Education Abroad (forumea.org), the Standards of Excellence for short
term missions (soe.org), and Missio Nexus (https://missionexus.org)
5. Send us to recruit at Missions Conventions, such as the Forum on
Education Abroad Virtual Study Abroad Fair (Sept. 2020) & URBANA

Our goal is to achieve
financial sustainability for
YWAM Converge Directors
and Operations, which
requires $7,475 / month.
- That’s $100 / month for
each of the 75 host
opportunities per year.
- We currently have
pledged support of
$3100 / month.
