Indirapuram is a developed area of Ghaziabad, India. It is located on NH-24[1][2]
 in
Ghaziabad district of state Uttar Pradesh.
Its foundation stone was laid by Motilal Vora, then Governor of Uttar Pradesh and now
a member of Rajya Sabha. The place where the black foundation stone was placed, is
now known as "Kala Patthar", which is a well-known landmark in Indirapuram now.[citation
needed]
It is one of the two big sub cities of Ghaziabad, along with Crossings Republik.
INTRODUCTION – LOCATING THE PLACE
SHIPRA MALL
HISTORY - EVOLUTION
• 3 MAJOR FOCAL POINTS around which the area developed
1. SHIPRA MALL – amongst the first largest malls that came
up in India
2. DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL, INDIRAPURAM – a branch of the
most famous private school in India
3. SWARANJAYANTI PARK – one of the few largest
recreational parks in NCR
• THREE MAJOR ENTRIES
FROM NH 24
NH 24
• 2002 – WHEN INDIRAPURAM WAS A
FOREST , FULL OF TREES EXCEPT FOR
ONE HOUSING PROJECT SHIPRA SUN
CITY
• 2004 – WITHIN TWO YEARS OTHER PLOTS
WERE SOLD AND THE PREPARATION FOR
CONSTRUCTION BEGAN AS WE SAW THE
DEFORESTATION
• 2007 – GRADUALLY SAW VARIOUS
BUILDINGS COME UP IN THE
SURROUNDINGS LEAVING THE
CENTRE AS GREEN AREA
• 2010 – MORE AND MORE BUILDINGS
AND AMENITIES CAME UP
• 2013 – A FULL FLEDGED
INDIRAPURAM
• 2016 – STILL CONTINUES TO
BUILD MORE
INDIRAPURAM was conceived as A PLANNED SATELLITE CITY way back in the early ‘80s by the then Chief
Minister ND Tiwari IN MEMORY OF INDIRA GANDHI. In 1984, the Ghaziabad Development Authority
(GDA) starts the process of Land acquisition from two villagers , Makanpur and Kanawani. Though a
couple of group housing projects were launched by the GDA, they failed to attract home buyers.
However, 2000 onwards, when real estate developer Shipra and GDA signed a Memorandium of
Understanding and launched a group housing project, Shipra Sun City, Indirapuram moved on the path
to revival. By 2006, it became an attractive real estate destination.

ISSUES AND CONCERNS
DRAINAGE PROBLEMS -
CLOGGED DRAINS , WATERLOG
STREETS AND UNBEARABLE
STENCH
THE PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED
FOR LONG
AND HAS CREATED DIRTY
UNHYGIENIC CONDITIONS
AROUND ALL SOCIETIES WHICH
BECOME WORSE DURING RAINS
CHAIN SNATCHING AND THEFTS ARE
COMMON IN INDIRAPURAM (ABHAY
KHAND, NITI KHAND ETC).
HUGE TRAFFIC JAM PEAK HOURS IN NH-24 TO
VAISHALI METRO THUS MAKES ENTERING INTO
INDIRAPURAM MESSY.
LACK OF PARKING SPACES
DUE TO ONGOING CONSTRUCTION
THE PRESENCE OF LABOURERS AND
THEIR SHELTERS CREATE A SENSE OF
NOT FEELING SAFE FOR WOMEN.
FEW BUILDERS HAVE POOR QUALITY OF
CONSTRUCTION AND THUS ISSUES IN
THOSE RESIDENCIES.
MOREOVER, CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
ARE MAKING THE ATMOSPHERE
POLLUTED WITH SMOKE AND DUST.
NO SPACE FOR PEDESTRIANS TO WALK
-LACK OF FOOTPATHS
-BROKEN FOOTPATHS WITH OBSTRUCTIONS
-PEOPLE PEE ON THE WALLS OF THE SOCIETY
-DUE TO DRAINAGE CLOGGING – PRESENCE OF DIRTY WATER ON THE SIDES OF
THE ROADS – PEOPLE HAVE TO WALK IN THE MIDDLE OF ROADS
-NO MASS PUBLIC TRANSPORT PROVIDED INSIDE
-ENCROACHMENTS OF VENDORS
INTERVENTIONS
ISSUE TAKEN – DRAINAGE CLOGGING AND
NO SPACE FOR PEDESTRIANS
SOLUTION – PEDESTRIANIZATION AND
TREATING THE SEWERS
ADVANTAGES OF TACKLING THIS ISSUE
•CREATING A HYGIENIC ENVIRONMENT
•MAKING IT A PEDESTRIAN FRIENDLY PLACE
• GENERATING PEDESTRIANS MAY RESULT
INTO LESS VEHICLES IN ROAD WHICH
WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF TRAFFIC
JAMS
PEDESTRIANISATION
PROPER STREET SECTION TO BE MADE
-PEDESTRIAN LANES PROVIDED
-CYCLE LANES PROVIDED
-SPACE FOR STREET FURNITURE PROVIDED
WAYS OF DEALING WITH
DRAINAGE PROBLEM
The surface of a green street rain
garden is bowl-shaped so water can
pool in the garden temporarily (less
than 24 hours). Initially, the native
plants are small, but will grow to fill
the garden
During a rain storm, water enters the rain
garden through the curb cuts. The rain water
flowing into the rain garden will soak through
the garden’s soil and gravel layers, then
slowly soak into the ground.
This diagram shows a cross
section of A TYPICAL GREEN
STREET RAIN GARDEN in the
street median. The rain
garden has a small ponding
area for runoff, underlain by
several feet of soil and
gravel. There's an
underdrain at the bottom to
allow water to flow to the
storm sewer system after it's
filtered.
PROPER FOOTPATHS CONSTRUCTED
ALONG WITH CURB RAMPS MAKING IT
BARRIER FREE
NO PROPER SPACE FOR
VENDORS WHICH
DISTURB THE ROAD AND
PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC
NO BUS STANDS
MORE SPACE FOR PEDESTRIANS TO
WALK DECREASING THE ROAD WIDTH
MIXED USE BUS STANDS CREATED
UTILISING THE SPACE AND REDUCING
VENDORS ON THE ROAD
PROPERS TAPRIS MADE ON
FOOTPATHS FOR THE VENDORS SO
THAT THEY DO NOT CREATE
DISTURBANCE ON ROAD OR THE
PEDESTRIAN WALKING ZONE
BUS STANDS TO BE PROVIDED IN EACH
500M GAP
