Educational Technology
What is Educational Technology?
There havebeen manychanges in educationaltechnology, from the ancient abacus to handheld calculators, slide projectors, and
classroomfilm strips to virtual realityand next-generation e-learning.This has inspired bothteachers and students to learn in new
ways.
Technologyis always changinghow we work and play, how we make things, and how we communicate. So it’s onlynatural that new
digital technologyis also changingthe world of education in bigways.
Educational Technologyforteachers
For teachers, technology is giving them new ways to
help young people learn and grow. Today, there is a
lot of excitement about how assistive technology,
virtual and augmented reality, high-tech
collaboration tools,gamification,podcasting,
blogging, 3D printing, artificialintelligence,
personalized learning, and a lot more can help
people learn better.
Here, we’ll look at some of the best examples of
educational technology,as well as some specific
edtech toolsand trends that we’ll talk about. When
we talk about “educationaltechnology,” we can talk
about both types of things at the same time.
• Educationalapproachesto learning, as well as the
theory and practice of these approaches
• The technologicaltoolsthat help people learn and
share their knowledge.
• Technology in the Classroom Toolsand media
Importanceof Educational technologytools
• One of the most important definitions of educational technology is that it
includes “the technological tools and media that help people to
communicate and exchange knowledge.
• Take augmented reality and virtual reality, for example, as example.
Daniel Newman, a technology innovation expert, wrote about the “Top 6
Digital Transformation Trends in Education” on Forbes.com. He talked
about how AR and VR can “enhance teacher instruction while also
creating immersive lessons that are fun and engaging for the student.” He
wants us to think about how virtual reality could be used to take students
to ancient Greece.
• By using games as an instructional tool, “gamification” combines playing
and learning, says Newman, who says that using games in the classroom
“can make learning difficult subject matter more exciting and interactive.”
• Newman says that a university in Australia used IBM’s Watson to make a
virtual student advisory service that was available 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week. In the first three months of pregnancy, Watson’s virtual advisors
answered more than 30,000 questions. This freed up human advisors to
deal with more complicated issues.
• ProwdigyGame.com, which has a free math game for grades 1-8 that is
used by millions of students, teachers, and parents, has a report called
“25 Easy Ways to Use Technology in the Classroom.” Some of their ideas:
25 EasyWaysto UseTechnologyin the Classroom…Someof
their ideas:
• Running a Virtual Field Trip: Explore famous places like
the Empire State Buildingor the Great Barrier Reef, or
use technology to “visit” the places before you go on
a real field trip.
• When students go on a Webquest, they learn how to
look for and process information in a fun way. Among
other things, they could be put in the role of a
detective in order to solve a “case.” They could look
for clues about a curriculum topic by looking at
specific sources and web pages.
• Podcasting:Playing relevantpodcasts, or helping
students make their own, can be a great way to
supplement lessons, help auditorylearners, and even
help students learn new things about how to make
things.
“WhatIs on the Horizon for EducationalTechnology?”by David
Andrade:
Online learning and makerspaces are the current tools and trends, with robotics and virtual reality expecting to be widely
used in the next few years. Taking a look at the future, Andrade says that “artificial intelligence and wearable technology” will
be common in four to five years.
In practice, teachers who learn how to use educational technology in classrooms and virtual classrooms will be the ones who
come up with new ideas for how to make them more interesting and effective.
Technologyin the classroomPeopletalkabout[Theoryand
Practice]
Another important part of educational technology is the theory and
practice of using new technology to come up with new ways to teach
and help students learn.
Behind all the high-tech tools and digital bells and whistles are the
teachers who know how to use these new technologies to make their
students’ educational worlds bigger. They also have the inspiration to
do this.
A report by the International Society for Technology in Education says
that the most interesting topics for teachers who use technology for
learning and teaching aren’t about the technology at all, but about
their students.
Students will benefit from more opportunities for personalized
learning, more collaborative classrooms, and new strategies like
“flipped learning,” which allows students to learn about a subject
outside of the classroom (often online) and then use class time to talk
about and solve problems with their peers.
For teachers who want to make a difference in this field, getting a
master’s in educational technology isn’t just about learning new
tools, strategies, and practices. It’s also about learning about the
supporting structures that must be in place to make sure the best
results.
Theseeducationaltechnologiesare as follow:
As for moral issues: (student privacy, etc.)
• Money, grants, and budgets
• Applications in the real world (the world of work, partnership opportunities,
etc.)
• Networking, hardware, and learning management software
• Access to community and school resources, as well as access for students.
• To be able to do a school or district needs assessment or site tech survey
analysis
For teachers who are excited about the huge potential of educational
technology, a master’s degree can’t be overestimated in terms of its value.
Careersin educational technology: Thevalueof a master’s
degreein thisfield
DavidWarlick, an education
technology pioneer, says that
“technology is the pen and
paper of our time, and it is the
lens through which we see
much of our world.”
In recent years, there has been
a lot of interest in educational
technology. This has led to the
creation of new advanced
degree programsthat teach
teachers how to think like an
innovatorand use technology
to change their classroom,
school, or district.
The best programs for tech
students are designed to all of
the tools and theories used in
educational technology,as
well as the importantissues
(budgeting, legal/ethical
issues, real-world
partnerships, educational
equity, and so on) that must
be addressed in order for
technology-enhanced
programs to achieve their full
potential.
Thegoalof educationaltechnology
Among other things, the University of San Diego, which has a well-known online master’s in education program, is adding a
new specialization to it. The goal of the program is to help teachers become effective K-12 technology leaders and coaches,
virtual educators, and instructional innovators who use technology-based teaching practices to help students learn.
The fully online format of the program, in which students learn from experts who have a lot of experience in the field and
also meet other teachers from all over the country, allows busy teachers to finish their master’s degree in 20 months while
still working full time.
