3. History
• Vienna developed from early Celtic and
Roman settlements into a Medieval and Baroque
city. It played an essential role as a leading
European music centre, from the great age of
Viennese Classicism through the early part of
the 20th century.
• The historic centre of Vienna is rich in
architectural ensembles, including Baroque
castles and gardens, as well as the late-19th-
century Ringstrasse lined with grand buildings,
monuments and parks.

4. Legends
• One talks about the monstrous creature – Basilisk
(something born from snake, frog and rouster) which
would go through the wells in the city.
• The other is how a famous, folk, Austrian song came to
life - it was about a lucky, young singer Augustus,
who was able to survive the raging plague somewhere
between 1678 - 1679.
• The popular verse of the song: "All is lost, dear
Augustin, there is no more money or a girl, and even no
more clothes. You are laying in mud, dear Augustin. Even
rich Vienna, where every day used to be a rejoicing, is
lost with you. All is lost!" Was put with a cheerful tune,
despite such serious words.

24. Summary
Vienna is a very glorious and big city. To visit it's every attraction,
museum or gallery one would need at least few days, if not a whole
week.
Old architecture is well preserved and perfectly combines with new
buildings and together they create a splendid view for tourists.
Walking through the streets, give a feeling of prestige and can make
a person humble from the beauty.
Communication is cheap and well connected - for two days of using
either metro, bus or trams you need one ticket for 48 hours, and it
costs only 14 Euro.
Most attractions are open for a whole week and sometimes there
are discounts or special ocasions, when tickets are for free.
Vienna's history is hidden in every corner and there is always
something new to learn and see.
