One challenge that Kristen had to overcome was the
disastrous loss of her house from Hurricane Ian. The
malleability of emotions (from fear to sadness) made
Kristen overcome and prepare for the long road to recovery.
With Kristen’s resilience, determination and positive
mindset, she relates this experience to her everyday
coaching of clients who have encountered tragedies or
endured losses.
During the mortgage crisis in 2008, Kristen decided to take
a step back from real estate when the opportunity arose to
become a spokesperson for the WIN Foundation and help
educate those who have been through abuse and aid them in
recovery. This created her passion for helping others
through many obstacles and overcoming their life
challenges.
This led Kristen to her philanthropic nature, and she even
went a step further, becoming a certified teacher for The
Win foundation. Kristen now has several certifications and

Grace, brief our audience about your journey as a
business leader until your current position at Coastal
Wealth. What challenges have you had to overcome to
reach where you are today?
I started my career in the financial services industry as an
advisor’s assistant. This advisor was also a mentor through
my college and had an opening in her firm. Through her
encouragement, I fully embraced the position and the
industry by getting licensed in securities and volunteering
in external industry organizations. I promised my mentor
that I, too, would mentor other females when I went further
in my career which I have continued to do.
I know finding mentors in the workplace is challenging, and
it is powerful to have someone to help set goals and hold
you accountable. Challenges I still go through today are the
inequities women face in the workplace, such as
unconscious bias, unequal pay and limited career
advancement.
My mentorships have allowed me to be a sounding board
for others and helped put things into perspective. I have
recently been asked to help build the Women of Coastal
Wealth program to empower women to create their own
pathways with the support of their fellow female
colleagues.
Tell us something more about your company and its
mission and vision.
Coastal Wealth’s mission is to navigate opportunities and
redefine what is possible. Our vision is to be one of the
nation's most innovative, collaborative and trusted financial
solutions firms.

commitments to our clients, team members and ourselves to

Enlighten us on how you have been impacting the
marketing niche through your expertise in financial
services.
I have been in the industry for over 25 years and have been
with my firm for over 15. I have obtained licenses and
certifications pertaining to my role and have taken on
leadership roles outside of work to enhance my skills.
I create well-defined marketing strategies each quarter for
my role, which has helped increase the firm’s recruiting and
production. One of the strategic objectives is to impact our
target markets and recruits.
The more people we reach, the more opportunities we have.
I know that we must diversify the ways we impact various
customers in different ways, such as through social media,
podcasts, websites or newsletters.
Describe in detail the values and the work culture that
drives your organization.
Coastal Wealth’s values are integrity, diversity, innovation,
collaboration and responsibility. A strong indicator of happy
employees is our low turnover rate. Coastal Wealth has
many long-term employees that are highly engaged and are
offered continued opportunities for growth in our “Pathway
to Leadership” program.
I truly believe we are not just colleagues but have become
friends outside of work. Our atmosphere is a positive,
supportive culture.
We offer $2,000 a year for education for each employee to
further themselves with a degree, credential or designation.
We have a very clear mission statement and vision that is
branded into our internal communications and announced
before every all-firm meeting.
Undeniably, technology is playing a significant role in
almost every sector. How are you leveraging
technological advancements to make your solutions
resourceful?
Technology has really revolutionized marketing and how
content is created and produced. It has also changed the
way we communicate and the way the world sees us. The
power of automation has been a game changer with the
amount of work it relieves my team from doing.
For example, we developed an internal firm store with
Coastal Wealth items through marketing automation which
allows the user to go directly through the site. We are able
to create registration pages, landing pages, forms and
chatbots using automation.
Social media and e-newsletters have easily allowed us to
reach our target audiences quickly, increasing our brand
loyalty.
Search Engine Optimization has helped us improve our
website's ranking, generating leads and maximizing traffic.
Changing technology is making a direct impact on how
efficiently and effectively we operate.
What, according to you, could be the next significant
change in the marketing sector? How is your company
preparing to be a part of that change?
I believe the next significant change in marketing is
Artificial Intelligence (AI). Coastal Wealth is already
embracing AI marketing tools that allow tailored messaging
specific to our audiences.
If we need an extra boost for content, AI’s content
generation can be used for marketing strategies, video
captions, email subject lines, and web copy. This can help
with real-time personalization in our messaging to reach
certain target markets to engage or reengage with our firm.
Machine Learning programs can help increase productivity,
ROI, and efficiency.
Where do you envision yourself to be in the long run,
and what are your future goals for Coastal Wealth?
I see myself continuing to develop my expertise in
marketing and contributing to the growth and success of
Coastal Wealth. With over 25 years in the financial services
industry, I have immersed myself in a leadership role and
continued looking for opportunities to make the department

as innovative and efficient as
possible.
This includes embracing all new
marketing ideas to keep in line or
ahead of our competition. Future
goals include making our firm
brand be known nationwide as we
are currently the premiere financial
services firm in the southeast. Still,
I would like to continue that
development as we build, grow and
provide new opportunities for our
financial professionals.
What would be your advice to
budding entrepreneurs who
aspire to venture into the
marketing industry?
My advice would be for those who
want to go into the marketing
industry, and I would tell them to
be as well-rounded as possible. I
would recommend this career to
someone who is an above-average
writer or can gain access to good
copywriting skills, who is creative
and forward thinking.
There are so many aspects to
marketing that they include a
variety of fields, such as content
creation, advertising, public
relations, website design, graphic
design, and many more. Most
companies need marketers to make
their products and people known,
and it is a desirable occupation.
Even if you choose to go into sales,
you still need to understand some
marketing. For those that are still
in school, I would recommend
getting a minor within the
marketing genre to make yourself
more competitive. It also would
not hurt to seek out a marketing
internship. Creativity and
communication skills are crucial to
engaging an audience.

Brief our audience about your journey as a business
leader until your current position at Nature’s Sunshine.
What challenges have you had to overcome to reach
where you are today?
I joined Nature’s Sunshine over five years ago. Our CEO
and Executive Team have been working for the past five
years on transforming the business, through focusing on
key strategies and aligning our priorities globally. We
achieved the highest revenue in Company History in 2020
and 2021 during the middle of a pandemic.
As far as HR Strategies, I worked with our HR Team to
create “best company to work for” strategies, by creating a
better culture, better employee experience and total rewards
portfolio to attract and retain top talent. When I first
arrived, we had one three-fold brochure about the benefits
the company provided, there was no orientation or
onboarding material to really engage employees and help
them to learn more about our history, our mission, vision,
values, and products etc. We set out to create better branded
collateral to improve engagement and encourage our
employees to participate in our new Wellness Rewards
program, which is focused on living an active and healthy
lifestyle, utilizing our products, learning more about our
products and sharing our products with others. We are a
health and wellness company, and our employees’ well-
being is a top priority. We want our employees to be
productive, happy and love working for Nature’s Sunshine.
In addition, we have focused on developing our leaders to
help them to multiply the talents on their teams and to help
them to lead their teams more effectively.
Tell us something more about your company and its
mission and vision.
Our mission is to share the healing power of nature with the
world, with a vision to become the nutritional supplement
company of the future. As true pioneers in the modern
herbal movement, we are passionate about the healing
power of nature. We work each day to create and share the
finest herbal and plant-based solutions for today’s health
and wellness needs. We also manufacture our own vitamins
and other nutritional supplements following rigorous
quality standards. We test all our raw materials for heavy
metals, pathogens, pesticides and herbicides, dirt, and other
impurities to ensure they meet the strictest health and safety
standards.
Enlighten us on how you have been impacting the
herbal health supplement niche through your expertise
in the market.
As the first company to encapsulate herbs over 50 years
ago, Nature’s Sunshine is really in a unique position in our
industry. We manufacture over 600 products and distribute
them globally around the world. No one else has the
knowledge, experience, or expertise that we have, particu-
larly when you consider that many of our people have
worked here for 20, 30 and 40 years, and the average tenure
is 10.5 years. We translate that knowledge into crafting the
world’s purest and most potent natural supplements
available. And we see that in the results our customers
experience.

What, according to you, could be the next significant
change in the herbal health supplement sector? How is
your company preparing to be a part of that change?
Sustainability and transparency are among the biggest
opportunities ahead of us in the natural health sector. As
herbal experts, we have already taken significant strides in
this area through our extensive commitment to quality,
purity, and potency in all of our ingredients and finished
supplements. With the push for sustainability in the broader
market, however, we are now formalizing much of what we
have been doing and exploring new directions in which we
can take the lead in these areas.
Last year we took a huge step towards this by publishing
our first-ever environmental, social and governance report.
In preparing this, we have been able to prioritize our efforts

technological advancements to make your solutions
resourceful?
Technology is moving to the forefront of our efforts
globally, particularly as we expand on our omni-channel
efforts to reach customers through multiple channels.
For over 50 years, we have supported our network of
thousands of independent distributors—many of whom are
herbal experts, which operate specialty retail shops or
conduct personal health consultations to build personal
relationships with their clients.
In today’s world of Amazon shopping, many consumers
have transitioned to online e-commerce purchases.
However, they still want a personal experience, and we are
leveraging technology to help make their shopping
experience better, whether it is in a physical store, on our
website, through social channels, or through an email or
text on their phone. We are using data more than ever to
better understand both existing and potential customers and
learn how to connect others with nature.

in sourcing, manufacturing, emissions, packaging, energy
usage, etc. and establish goals to drive our efforts.
Among those goals was the desire to power our
manufacturing plant using 100% renewable energy, which
we accomplished in June of last year. Now every Nature’s
Sunshine product made in our facility is produced using
only the sustaining, life-giving power of the sun.
We have also significantly reduced our greenhouse gas
emissions, reduced plastic usage by updating our packaging
and converting to post-consumer recycled plastics. And we
have invested in and expanded our recycling efforts to
reduce waste.
We understand that to share the healing power of nature
with the world, we must protect and preserve that power,
and we are excited to continue building out our ESG
strategies and become a leader in this area.
Where do you envision yourself to be in the long run,
and what are your future goals for Nature’s Sunshine?
Nature’s Sunshine has a very promising future. We have the
best, most potent natural supplements in the world, and as
we grow our global footprint and brand, we will continue to
manufacture superior products and provide natural solutions
to our customers—customized to their individual
needs—around the world.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the herbal health supplement
industry?
Be curious and learn all you can about natural herbs and
how they can benefit the body. Secondly, get a good
education. And learn about business, study competitors,
learn more about cost accounting, finance and then your
area of expertise. Third, learn from a great mentor; learn
from them, they will help you to become better and to be
more successful. Lastly, surround yourself with great
leaders, and a great team. It takes teamwork to transform as
business and to achieve results.

Surmounting the Adversities One challenge that Kristen had to overcome was the disastrous loss of her house from Hurricane Ian. The malleability of emotions (from fear to sadness) made Kristen overcome and prepare for the long road to recovery. I have been in the industry for over 25 years and have been with my firm for over 15. I have obtained licenses and certifications pertaining to my role and have taken on leadership roles outside of work to enhance my skills. I create well-defined marketing strategies each quarter for my role, which has helped increase the firm’s recruiting and production. One of the strategic objectives is to impact our target markets and recruits. The more people we reach, the more opportunities we have. I know that we must diversify the ways we impact various customers in different ways, such as through social media, podcasts, websites or newsletters. Technology has really revolutionized marketing and how content is created and produced. It has also changed the way we communicate and the way the world sees us. The power of automation has been a game changer with the amount of work it relieves my team from doing. For example, we developed an internal firm store with Coastal Wealth items through marketing automation which allows the user to go directly through the site. We are able to create registration pages, landing pages, forms and chatbots using automation. Social media and e-newsletters have easily allowed us to reach our target audiences quickly, increasing our brand loyalty. Search Engine Optimization has helped us improve our website's ranking, generating leads and maximizing traffic. Changing technology is making a direct impact on how efficiently and effectively we operate. What, according to you, could be the next significant change in the marketing sector? How is your company preparing to be a part of that change? I believe the next significant change in marketing is Artificial Intelligence (AI). Coastal Wealth is already embracing AI marketing tools that allow tailored messaging specific to our audiences. If we need an extra boost for content, AI’s content generation can be used for marketing strategies, video captions, email subject lines, and web copy. This can help with real-time personalization in our messaging to reach certain target markets to engage or reengage with our firm. Machine Learning programs can help increase productivity, ROI, and efficiency. Where do you envision yourself to be in the long run, and what are your future goals for Coastal Wealth? My advice would be for those who want to go into the marketing industry, and I would tell them to be as well-rounded as possible. I would recommend this career to someone who is an above-average writer or can gain access to good copywriting skills, who is creative and forward thinking. There are so many aspects to marketing that they include a variety of fields, such as content creation, advertising, public relations, website design, graphic design, and many more. Most companies need marketers to make their products and people known, and it is a desirable occupation. Even if you choose to go into sales, you still need to understand some marketing. For those that are still in school, I would recommend getting a minor within the marketing genre to make yourself more competitive. It also would not hurt to seek out a marketing internship.
