How the books are different to alternative
study guides?
SOUTH AFRICA’S BEST SELLING STUDY GUIDES
• Books cover CAPS comprehensively
• The books support learners right through from those who want to pass, to those looking for high distinctions
• They have a simple, user friendly language with a conversational style
• The books are not last minute study guides, they contain clear explanations and offer a wealth of revision exercises
and are best used from day one, throughout the year
• In some subjects teachers are using them in the classroom instead of the textbook
• Mathematics in particular, is well scaffolded and structured with the pedagogy of introducing and then reinforcing
concepts. Also, particularly important for Mathematics is that theory needed from earlier years is repeated in the
study guides. In many cases this theory has been forgotten or it is assumed to be known by the learner.
14. Project Jika 2022
Why the books are necessary in addition to
textbooks
SOUTH AFRICA’S BEST SELLING STUDY GUIDES
• The last time a textbook was updated in South Africa was in 2014. Since then the textbook
catalogue has been frozen for new submissions
• Since then, The Answer Series portfolio has kept up with the latest developments in the
curriculum
• Even since 2014, textbook are generally light on practice examples. This is where The Answer
Series excels, providing a thorough and deep pool of opportunities for practice together with
detailed model answers, thus properly preparing learners for the application of knowledge
(tests and exams)
• Explanations in the books are clear and precise and considered to be accessible to learners,
unlike textbooks that are often stiff and out of touch with the language of the classroom
15. Project Jika 2022
Is there digital content and is it interactive?
SOUTH AFRICA’S BEST SELLING STUDY GUIDES
• The books are available via e-book, distributed through our e-book partner, Snapplify
• For now, most schools that qualify for Project Jika are under-resourced and don’t possess
the digital infrastructure to successfully use digital learning content (lack of reliable
devices and internet access), thus underscoring the need for this book-based impact
project
• Multi-media content is available on our website, but doesn’t form part of the Project Jika
offering
• But, no, there isn’t interactive multi-media
16. Project Jika 2022
Has the department of education approved
the books?
SOUTH AFRICA’S BEST SELLING STUDY GUIDES
• We are listed on the supplemental catalogues of North West, Gauteng, Eastern Cape,
Kwazulu Natal– other provinces have not produced Supplemental Catalogues
• Over the years we have had numerous orders from the provincial departments of
education when they have a under-performing subject. These orders can range into the
100s of thousands of books. This is a validation of the governments faith in the books to
deliver better outcomes than without the books.
• Crucial insight: The Department of Education funds the purchase of textbooks in South
Africa, not Study Guides. As a consequence, only the well-resourced learners gain access
to this unfair advantage.
