Why am I here?
Because I'm bored of procrastination
Because I believe in human potential and science
I was born in Exeter and despite living in many other cities I still like it.
But Experience has shown me there are better ways of doing things
As Gagarin said of rocket science, it's not difficult you need just enough momentum to leave the grasp of gravity
Cars are ugly and take up useful space they are antisocial
Biggest threat in Britain today, not terrorists, but vehicles on the road
Mass murderers
5 deaths a week
40,000 premature dearths pa, slowly dying from pollution in our cities
Lots of cars
in the same place
at the same time it s a fact!
This is hell on earth
It's a bore
It pollutes
It's ugly
It's antisocial
There is a more positive vision
Copenhagen station, dress for destination
Gandy st held up a s a beacon for Exeter (just the one?)
Europe has Bike lanes fit for purpose
And Delivery by other means, electric bikes etc
ALL pedestrian no cars!
To do this We need to change people's habits
So there are allegedly ways of doing this, you may have heard of nudge?
According to behaviour change theory people listen to peers, they're persuaded by people with status e .g doctors, they don't like being told by authorities
They are attracted by incentives
They trust each other not authorities
Read MINDSPACE
But encourage and nudge is not enough it doesn't really work. Smoking etc.
If I was benevelant dictator mayor of Exeter there's loads I'd do!
There's a whole raft of things we can do that at present seem unpalatable to help reduce congestion, recent examples from Paris, they just tell!
My message to Karim and Pete , Grow some balls frankly. And doing it
A more subtle way to prime people for those less easily accepted measures is to show them, not tell them how it could be.
During the ROyal Clarence fire large area of Exeter pedestrian
People liked it in E and E
The objectors often spoke on behalf of others e.g disabled people, why not ask them?
Let's try Once a month at first, on a Sunday within the old city walls, no vehicles, gate it off. And survey, footfall in shops cafes etc and ask people what they think?
Data! Push polling with iBeacon perhaps?

If I was fascist mayor of London like Boris there's loads I'd do!

I have a list of other ideas with no time to share here
Housing etc
Gonna take political bravery
Change creates friction but that is an energy we can use
But the outcome will amazing
