Most People Haven't Actually Built an Audience
...and that's okay but when you're building a startup, everyone has their two cents about what you
should be doing differently; especially when it comes to growth. I won't add to the noise you're
already recieveing, I'll just give you the formula I used to get more than 1,000 users without any
advertising or press coverage.
4. The most memorable part about your app store presence is your Icon. Here's how to make it
iconic: Limit the use of words; that can be tough for apps with long names. Remember, the text in
the icon will be hard to see, so try to hone in on a brand element that best represents what you do.

Introduce Yourself
It's Okay to Test: I know you don't
want people to forget about who you
are but you want to find what
converts the most downloads and
fast. The only way to determine that
is through seeing what works best!
Title Description: You have 30
characters or less to tell your users
your main value adds. The catchier
the better, with your strongest words
at the beginning.
5. When people first arrive to your app store page, they only see the first three lines. Make sure you
sell them on why they should download in the first one as people spend an average of 7 seconds
on any given App Store page.

Find a Phrase and Own It!
You can't expect people to search for your app when they have never heard of you. But what you
can expect is for them to go into the App Store and search for key phrases. This could "Meet New
People" or "Find Free Stuff". Whatever it is, you'll want to make sure you write it about 5 times;
too little and you won't perform. Too much and you'll lose rank for being spammy.

Steal Traffic from Your Competition
Listen, they're going to try to steal it from you, so make sure you do the same. Don't shy away
from name dropping your competition. Frequently in our App Store description, you'll see phrases
like "Similar to..." or "Just Like On..." so we can be sure that our app shows up when people search
for them and we get a feature in Apple's "Similar to..." Also be sure to check their description and
pick up on the industry specific tricks they're deploying
The App Stores are numbers games. You won't convert every page view but the more you get, the faster you get to your
target reach. You may not start out beating the giant competitors you have but fear not, people scroll multiple flicks
when they are in search of something to solve a problem for them.
8. Optimize Your Screenshots
#thefirst1000 8
I get it. Your first submission to the stores is a nightmare and you'll get a bunch of rejections over
stupid details but don't be lazy and just throw up screengrabs of your product. Take your time and
design it with intentionality to pull in more of the people passing by...

What Did We Do?
Remember: Most users will only see your
first 2 screenshots when they pass by.
Optimize for that and make sure you can
convert your message in two screens or less
No More than 5 Words: at the Top: People
are scrolling fast, break your message down
as short as possible to give users FOMO as
they're scrolling through the store.
Take Aways, Not Features: Tell Users what
they are going to get, not the names of
features. Features names will make no
sense to them.
Use BIG Fonts: Make the text as big as you
can, the little small text below the app will
likely not be read by users.
Sideways Phone: We turned the phone
sideways; not just because it's the trend; It
allows you to increase the total size of the
phone. Interfaces can be hard to see when
posted vertically in the screenshots.
Insider Tip: When people share your app in
a message with their friend, only the first
screenshot pops up. Make sure that your
first on can close on it's own.
10. Rack Up Your Ratings
#thefirst1000 10
Don't just ask your friends to download your app, ask for a good rating too! Your rating score can
be the difference between your app showing up above or below the fold in page search ranking.
When you add in the prompt to ask users for ratings, make it a two step process: Ask If they like
your app, If they say yes, ask for a rating! But if they say no, connect them to your feedback
channel so you keep the negative comments and ratings off of your page score!
