Preface
First of all, let me preface this
by saying that there are
various safety initiatives and
tools that are being used by
railroads operationally.
They can be broadly categorized
into three types based on the
departments.
Operating/safety procedures for TYE – To
prevent switching accidents, jaywalking fatalities,
or railroad crossing accidents.
Operating/safety procedures for engineering,
signaling, and track maintenance to prevent
derailments and accidents.
Operating/safety procedures for mechanical to
keep employees safe during locomotive and car
maintenance.
There are a variety of safety tools in all these departments, including
automation and PTC, that are being leveraged across the industry to
prevent accidents.
This presentation will concentrate on human factor incidents and
strategies or tools that can be used enterprise-wide to build a safety
culture for employees.
