Cierzo Brewing Co. is a craft brewery based in Zaragoza, Spain that was founded in 2018. They operate a main brewery in Caspe, Spain that produces around 200,000 liters of beer annually and distribute their products across Spain and 15 other countries in Europe. In addition to their main brewery, they also have a brewpub in the city center of Zaragoza that serves beers brewed on-site as well as beers from their Caspe production facility. Cierzo Brewing Co. is known for their IPAs and hazy beers but also experiment with other styles, and their beers have received numerous awards since the brewery was founded.
2. Cierzo Brewing Co. is the craft beer of Zaragoza (Spain). An authentic,
uncompromising, noble, and soulful beer. This is how we see this
beverage, which has been around for more than a millennia, and which
is only made perfect when made with passion, and showing respect for
each recipe, elaboration time and its ingredients.
The Cierzo is Zaragoza’s most renowned wind: a powerful wind that
blows through the Ebro Valley. It is intense, cold and dry, but also
purifying. We want our beers to embody this essence of who we are,
which makes us unique, a quality which no one can fail to notice, and
to transmit the energy with which they were created.
3. We have been brewing our beers in Caspe (Zaragoza, Spain) since 2018.
Despite being a new brand, we have quickly established ourselves as one
of Spain’s most well-known breweries, thanks to the great experience of
our brewers, and we are now present in more than 15 countries, including
France, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Norway among
others. In these countries, as well as in certain regions of Spain, we
have area distributors who are responsible for offering and delivering
our products, while in other areas we distribute directly. If you have any
questions about how to acquire our beers, you can contact us at
sales@cierzobrewing.com.
4. In these years, we have received
some of the most prestigious
awards that a brewery of our kind
can opt for in Spain, such as the
awards for Best New Brewery at
the Barcelona Beer Challenge and
RateBeer Best in 2020, second place
and 8 medals at the Barcelona Beer
Challenge in 2021 or the award
for Best Beer at the National Beer
Championship in the same year with
Maglia Rosa.
5. In addition to our brewery in Caspe, we have a brewpub in the city
centre of Zaragoza, the first of its kind in our region, Aragón. A 600
m2 space with a large kitchen and 24 beer taps where we serve some
of the beers brewed in our main brewery, but also those beers we
brew ourselves in the Brewpub that can only be enjoyed there.
Esquire magazine named this
unique spot one of the 50 best
bars in Spain for its excellent
cuisine and a variety of beer-
themed events (tastings,
courses, food and wine pairings,
etc.).
7. All of our beers are made with high-quality ingredients, whether they
are sourced locally, such as some locally grown fruits, or imported from
around the world, such as the numerous hop varieties
Although we’re known for our IPAs and their numerous variations, our
love of beer inspires us to constantly experiment with new styles and
bring to the market our best selections.
The vast majority of our production is packaged in two formats: 20-litre
PolyKeg kegs and 44-cl cans.
Our complete catalogue of beers is available on our website (https:/

16. The story of Cierzo Brewing Co. began in August 2018 when we started
marketing our first beers. However, our roots in the craft beer market date
back 15 years, when Sergio Ruiz, the brewmaster of Cierzo Brewing Co,
brewed his first recipes at home. With his experience and knowledge
of chemistry (PhD from the University of Zaragoza), in 2011 he founded
Populus, a project in which he would later be joined by his friend and
home brewer David Laguarda. After a few years as nomads, in 2015 they
founded their own brewery in Caspe (Zaragoza) and became one of the
most important craft breweries in Aragon.
After a few years of progress and improving their processes, in 2018 they
decided to join forces with two other Aragonese companies, Hoppy and
Gourpass, with the aim of creating a great craft beer brand. These two
companies specialise in the bar & restaurant sector and the import/
export of craft beer respectively, which proved an important advantage
for the new project. In July 2018, we launched a crowdfunding campaign
to attract new minority investors who would bring the momentum needed
to make Cierzo Brewing Co. a reality, reach its commercial goal in record
time, and recruit 260 ambassadors for our newborn brewery.
17. Shortly after the creation of the new brand, we had 2 facilities: a brewpub
in the centre of Zaragoza and a main brewery in the neighbouring
town of Caspe. The first is a 600 m2 space in the centre of the Aragonese
capital, just a few metres from the Plaza de España. It houses a craft
brewery, a brewery with 24 taps of different varieties of beer and a
gourmet restaurant. While some of the beers offered at the brewpub
are made on-site, the majority are brewed at the main brewery in Caspe,
which has a larger production capacity and serves customers all across
Spain and Europe.
To carry out all these tasks, three other partners have joined the company
alongside Sergio and David: Santiago Marco in sales, Carlos Suárez in
marketing and Antonio Ansón as finance director. Fernando Calleja, as
coordinator and Eva Felipe, as graphic designer and author of the entire
look and feel of our brand are also involved. Without overlooking the great
team of bartenders and chefs who are part of our Brewpub, managed by
Lorena Justes.
18. Following a period of growth marked by increased sales in 2019
and awards at the start of 2020 (RateBeer Best and Barcelona Beer
Challenge), we relocated to a larger plant in Caspe, which, together with
the addition of new fermentation tanks, allowed us to grow and expand
our production capacity.
Despite the challenging times we
experienced in 2020 and 2021 as a
result of the global pandemic, we were
able to maintain a reasonable level
of production and sales, given the
conditions and the temporary surge in
online purchases during the lockdown
periods. All of this led to us purchasing
our own canning facility in 2021 and
expanding the number of fermenters
to the existing 12, with an annual
production volume of around 200,000
litres.
19. Some of our recipes come from collaborations with other brewery
friends, both nationally and internationally. These are always great
opportunities for us to learn, meet people and, most importantly, enjoy
what we love most. Moreover, these collaborations often lead us to visit
other cities and their beer scenes, which in turn leads to all kinds of events
in bars and specialty shops that we are excited to discover or to revisit. But
these are not our only collaborations, as we have also brewed beers with
bars, music groups, cocktail bars, sports teams and also charities
.
And finally, as is common with other breweries, Cierzo has nomadic
brewers who brew and bottle some of their recipes in our facilities. If you
are interested, we will be delighted to send you our conditions and prices
through sales@cierzobrewing.com.
