Reading is one of the main skills for learning a language. Reading is a skill that requires learning. It has its own strategies to be mastered. Although
reading skills promote at early age by the support of parents, teachers play an important role in varying strategies of learning reading at children.
The way I learned English I learned to read English by scaffolding the long words to know which part of speech they are. I started by reading words,
phrases, sentences, paragraphs then whole pages. At the start, I realized the mistake I was making by stopping at each difficult word to translate. This

The second strategy is scanning. It is a primarily quick reading through that allows me to break reading into pieces or scaffolding to reach the main
ideas. Scanning is to review what you have read to understand your reading. Deconstructing the material of reading is a direct purpose of reading. It
allows to get specific details to connect with general ideas to get a full picture of what is being read. The third strategy is summarizing. I used to give
the reading passage again but in my own words to make sure to what extent I mastered it. This develops my understanding of the reading material.
Then I answer reading questions and try to get answers from my summary and from the original reading material to make sure my summary lacks
nothing.
Summarizing makes me understand what I am reading using a simpler language. The fourth strategy to learn English reading is discussing. I used to
discuss what I read which an adult or a teacher. Discussing my reading will add assurance and full understanding of it. It will make me more able to
apply what I read in life through discussing and analyzing looking for positive and negative aspects in the reading passage. Discussion based reading
can also be tested through answering questions related to the passage if reading and commenting on them. The fifth strategy is extracting. It is very

I wouldn't say that I am a good writer, and I really don't like to read books either. Through my years in school I became literate in these two

The way it helps me out is if I'm starting to get bored typing a paper I don't have to leave the computer I could go on the internet and look at ESPN
for a couple of minutes and after I check out last nights scores I can go back to writing my paper. Because of my computer literacy there are a
numerous amount of things I know I can do on a computer like listen to music, get on the internet, check e–mail, watch a movie, talk to a friend, etc. It
might take my attention away from typing but it is only for a little bit, and then I am back to typing. In the long run I can get the assignment done
faster than just sitting in one spot with no distractions around because I will eventually step away and start doing something else, then someone might
call me to go some where and I will forget about the paper and leave.
I myself am more of a "hands–on" type of learner; I would rather see demonstrations on what I need to do and be told why it was done that way, and
the reason for it. Some subjects don't need to be taught with the hands–on approach. But now since I am in college the responsibility between the
teachers and myself has shifted, I now have to seek out the information instead of the teacher's hand feeding it to me. One of my strengths is

Reflection On Reading And Writing
My experience in English 202 has been an interesting and informative one. Prior to taking this course, I thought that I knew what the English major
was all about: reading and writing. Both of those things come easily to me, so I expected this class to be a piece of cake.
What I discovered over the course of the semester is that while reading and writing are indeed central to the English major, there is much more to it
than that. My knowledge of literary theory was scanty at best. I had no idea how many different schools of thought exist in this field. The ability to
view a text through a variety of critical lenses was unfamiliar to me, but now that I understand the concept, it brings new insight to my reading. Having
begun this semester with minimal knowledge of literary theory, I discovered that I prefer outward–looking theories such as psychoanalytic and feminist
theory over inward–looking theories such as new criticism. While I did well on all my papers and quizzes, I struggled with writing coherent thesis
statements, organizing my ideas on paper, and writing smooth transitions; I hope to continue to improve in these areas going forward. Although I did

Reading can be such a broad topic in America today. How important is it, why do we read, the questions are endless but to what extent is reading
really important? There are so many issues going on around the globe such as illegal immigration, abortion and the new health care reform. Reading is
no where near as important as those topics, those issues can change one's life forever and reading is just something we do without even noticing. It

We were all created differently which means we all look at things with a different viewpoint. There should never be a limitation on reading, we
have the freedom as human beings to interpret something any way we want too. Books have that power to take you into your thoughts and really
examine what your thoughts are on the book and how you feel and when it's fiction it can take you into the story and get you to really use your

Writing has always been something I dread. It's weird because I love talking and telling stories, but the moment I have to write it all down on
paper, I become frantic. It's almost as if a horse race just begun in my mind, with hundreds of horses, or words, running through my mind, unable to
place them in chronological order. Because I struggle to form satisfying sentence structure, it takes me hours, sometimes even days, to write one

Reading was the new outlet for my imagination and the stories I read fascinated me. They weren't too unlike the scripts of computer games or the

Literacy Narrative: My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years
I have never been the type of student who enjoyed reading or writing. I have always found it difficult to express myself by writing narratives, book
reports, and any other required assignment. I am far more skilled at speaking or verbal expression in general as I have found over the years that people
tend to misunderstand my point if it is written.
When I sit to write, I have to think about what I want to say. This is not easy for me as I tend to think about several things at once. Clearing my mind
and focusing on the writing task is a challenge in itself. I do not consider myself a strong writer and find it intimidating especially when I know it will
be critiqued. The sense of failure when seeing the paper I worked so hard on look like the newest local headline of a recent murder is disheartening
for me. I assume I am being overly critical of myself but those feelings seem to be redeemed when I look over the aftermath of what was my

My teacher had a strange sense of humor and after she had finished reading the chapter she said in a villainous tone, "It might be smart to review

Reading is a skill often taken for granted but it is essential in order to progress in life. For a child being able to read well helps them learn new
things, give ideas and enables use of imagination. National literacy trust (2015) suggests that children's early language skills can have a major impact

are essential skills to support a child that is learning something new. Games enable all children to develop skills without pressure and are
particularly important for children who may be less confident (Lindon, 1993). The 'Let's Read' game can be used for a variety of ages as the
words can be changed and personalised depending on the child's reading ability. This game is a good way of helping to teach a child to read and
improve on words that they struggle with because it is taught by learning through play, therefore the child is less aware they are learning and it is a

Rick Riordan once said, "The images from the book you make in your head are always going to be the best images." It was in these words that I
started reading books at a young age. When I was growing up as a kid in elementary school, I did not have a huge interest in reading or writing, that is,
until I met my fourth–grade teacher. When I met Ms. Deemer, my perspective onreading and writing changed as she introduced me to books that were

Reflection Before taking this class I thought that my reading skills were exceptional, but I was undeniably wrong about that. Now, after taking
this class I can say that my reading skills have greatly improved. I now know how to analyze works of art and find new meanings behind the words
that I read. Now, with the knowledge on how to use criticism to my advantage, all types of literature will become wide open to me in a sense that I
will be able to understand literature in greater detail. I would certainly say that I learned more in this English class than any other English class I
have taken so far, even though it was online. I even improved on my grammar throughout the course of these past six weeks. I learned how to write
more comprehensive paragraphs and how to write essays that stay on topic as well. Before taking this class I had not read too many poems so I was

Personal Reading History When I was a younger I don't remember if I was read to or not, but I read a lot of books. I enjoy reading books because
they allow me to reach new heights in my imagination. At my age many kids say that reading is boring and is for losers. I think it's cool to read and
will continue to read throughout my life. I have read many different types of books from fiction to biographies. The longest book I ever read was a book
called Dragon Rider by Cornella Funke. It was five hundred and thirty five pages! When it comes to reading I am a superstar! When I'm reading I am

She also taught me to finish something if I started it, and that carried over to my reading. If I start reading a book I always finish it and do my best
to understand it. So, she instilled what I know about reading and she influenced the way I read. She always told me, when I was younger, to
pronounce my words right so that when I get older I would pronounce my words right. All that she has said to me and taught me when I was coming
up as a younger child helped me get to the level of reading I am on today and also to the level of understanding I have of all the words I read. Without
her encouraging me in this way I would have had problems understanding things that I read and wouldn't be as smart as I have grown to be. I am
very thankful of how I was brought up as a kid. When I'm reading, it doesn't really matter where I read. When I'm reading I go into a different world
and get to a place where I feel as if I'm part of the story and can relate to the main character and what he or she is going through. Also, when I'm
reading I think the best place for me would be where it's quiet because I find it easier to concentrate in silence. I also read better when I'm upset
because it gives me an outlet to release anger and allows me to get my work done. All throughout my life, I've had many good experiences reading.
