2. Funny Story / Spoof
• Funny story is an account of an amusing
incident, usually with punch line.
• Spoof is a text which tells factual
story, happened in the past time with
unpredictable and funny ending. Its social
function is to entertain and share the story or
to tell an event with a humorous twist.

3. Generic Structure
• Orientation: The introduction of the story
(Who is the character, When it
happened, Where it located)
• Events: Several event in chronological way
which able to arrange the story read nicely
• Twist: Unpredictable ending

4. Language Feature
• The use of action verbs (e.g. :
walked, laughed, ran away)
• The use of connectives (e.g. :
first, then, finally)
• The use of adverbial phrases of time and
place (e.g. : In the garden, two days ago)
• The use of the simple past tense (e.g. : He
walked away from the village)

5. Illegal Turn
A man in hurry taking his
eight-year-old son to
school made a turn at a
red light where it was
prohibited.
“Uh-oh, I think I just
made an illegal turn!” the
man said.
“It’s OK Dad,” the boy
said. “The police car right
behind us did the same
thing.”

6. Scary Story
A scary story is something that is said or
written to make people feel frightened and
think that a situation is much more
unpleasant or dangerous than it really is.

7. Generic Structure
• Orientation: Who was involved, what
happened, where the events took place, and
when it happened.
• Events: Tell what happen and in what
sequence.
• Reorientation: Consist of optional closure of
events/ending.

8. Language Feature
• Introducing personal participant: I, My
group, My sister, etc.
• Using chronological connection:
first, then, finally, etc.
• Using linking verb:
was, were, saw, heard, etc.
• Using action verb: look, go, change, etc
• Using simple past tense

9. Scary Story
Last midnight, when I slept in my bedroom, I heard
someone sang a sad song and sometimes she was crying. I
was very scared and curious with that voice because it was
very strange for me. I tried to find out the source of that voice
until I know it was from the back of my window. Actually I was
very scared but I still wanted to know who was sang a song
like that in the midnight. I got up and walked slowly to the my
big window. When I opened the curtain, I didn’t see no body
or anything outside.I was really be astonished.
After looked that, I slept again because I felt very sleepy
after work hard to make so many task and prepare for the test
next day. But a few minutes later, I heard the same sound like
the sound I heard before. It made me a little angry because it
was very disturbing my sleep. I looked my cute clock on the
wall. It showed 12.15 AM. Someone sang a sad song at
midnight ?

10. So, I was forced to be brave and I opened the
curtain again. And… I saw an old woman with very
long hair wearing a white long dress with a very
scaring face. He stared at me angrily. I was so scared.
Then… I screamed very very loudly. I tried to run as
fast as I can.
But... suddenly someone held my hand. Do you
know, who held my hand? It was my sister. She sat
besides me and asked, “What happened with you?
Why you screamed at midnight?” “Where is the old
woman? Where is she now?”, I answered. “Old
woman? No old woman here. Maybe you are just
dreaming”, she answered. Oh my God, do you believe
it? It was just a nightmare. But I think that was just
so real.
