Used In Research
To understand how to do research
correctly is to be knowledgeable
about research terms.
8. ABSTRACT
This refers to a short
summary of your
research, explaining
the different sections
briefly and clearly.
STUDYING THE MENTAL HEALTH
OF STUDENTS DURING
PANDEMIC
The research explored the mental health state of grade 12
students of St. Ambrose Catholic School during the COVID-19
pandemic and how it affected their general well-being in
connection to their study habits. Participants are composed of
75 grade 12 students, 32 male students, and 40 female
students from all the academic strands (ABM, GAS, HUMSS,
STEM). Each participant was given two survey forms; one
referring to their mental health state before pandemic and one
during the pandemic. Results suggest that there indeed was
an affect on the mental health of the participants pre-pandemic
andduring thepandemic,
9. CONCLUSION
This is the last part of your
researchwhere you
synthesize all the
important aspectsof the
study and confirmto your
readers why the research
is worth studying.
Students who suffer from mental health issues should
be given appropriate attention immediately. A
significant number of grade 12 students from St.
Ambrose Catholic School experience distress because
of the online educational setup brought about by the
pandemic. For this not to escalate further, these
students should be provided with professional help.
Parents should also play a vital role in letting their
children know that they are aware of this issue and
provide the emotional support that the students need
duringthepandemic.

10. CONSTRUC
T
DATA
Factual information used as a basis for
reasoning, discussion or calculation.
Something that exists theoretically but is not
directly observable or a theoretical definition
in which concepts are defined in terms of
other concepts.
HYPOTHESI
S
A tentative explanation based on theory to
predict a casual relationship between
variables.
11. INTRODUCTIO
N
This indicates the
presentation of your
chosen topic.
COVID-19, the pandemic that forced people,
establishments, businesses, and nations to close down
and isolate themselves from the public, has substantial
adverse effects on individuals’ mental health, particularly
teenage learners. Findings suggest that students who are
enrolled in online classes due to the pandemic had
difficulties coping with the new academic system (Tan,
2020). Feelings of laziness, loss of sleep and interest, and
restlessness are just some of the evident signs of mental
distressamongstudents(Lapaz&Reymunde,2020).

12. LITERATURE
REVIEW
This is where the
researcher use and
review other existing
studies written by
experts and scholars
about the topic to enrich
the study.
Stress, an indication of a mental health issue, has
been a topic which has emerged as a recurring
event in the lives of learners during the pandemic.
Iwasaki, Mactavish, and Kelly (2005) stated, “stress
is a frequent topic in popular media, health, and
socialservice,and policy-makingareas” (p.81)

13. MEASUREMENT
The process of obtaining numerical description of
the extent to which persons, organizations, or
things possess specified characteristics.
METHODOLOG
Y
This is the design of the study or the systematic process
that the researcher has used for the study to produce
credible results. Two types of methodologies: qualitative
(words in collecting data) and quantitative (numbers or
statistics)
MODELS
Representations of objects, principles, processes
or ideas often used for imitation or emulation.
14. PARTICIPANT
Individuals whose physiological and/or behavioral
characteristics and responses are the object of
study in a researchproject.
POPULATION
The target group under investigation. The population is
the entire set under consideration. Sample are drawn
from populations.
QUESTIONNAIR
E
Structured sets of questions on specified subjects
that are used to gather information, attitudes, or
opinions.

OF STUDENTS DURING
PANDEMIC
RELIABILITY
The degree to which a measure yields consistent
results.Reliability is a prerequisitefor validity.
16. SAMPLE
The population researched in a particular study. Usually,
attempts are made to select a “sample population” that is
considered representative of groups op people to whom
results willbegeneralized ortransferred.
THEORY
A general explanation about a specific behavior or set of
events that is based on known principles and serves to
organize related events in ameaningful way.
TRIANGULATIO
N
A multimethod or pluralistic approach, using different methods
in order to focus on the research topic from different
viewpoints and toproduce amultifaceted setofdata.
17. UNIT OF
ANALYSIS
The basic observable entity or phenomenon being
analyzed by a study and for which data are collected in
the form of variables.
VALIDITY
The degree to which a study accurately reflects or
assesses the specific concept that the researcher is
attempting to measure.
VARIABLE
Any characteristic or trait that can vary from one
person to another or for one person over time.
18. Technical
Definition
It refers to a specific and complete definition of a word,
procedure,or event.
• PARENTHETICALDEFINITIONS A more straightforward, simple term is
used.
• SENTENCEDEFINITIONS Multiple terms are defined in a series of
sentences.
• EXPANDEDDEFINITIONS A longer explanation in one or more
paragraphs that attempt to explain a
complex term and may make use of
visualsand diagram.
19. Operational
Definition
It refers to defining the
word based on the
nature or how an
object or phenomenon
functionsor is used.
According to the World Health Organization
(WHO), the technical definition of mental health is
“a state of well-being; cognitive, behavioral, and
emotional.” Its operational definition includes being
at peace with oneself, wellness and proper diet,
exercising and going to the gym, playing sudoku
or mind-enhancing games, or taking spa
treatments.

Editor's Notes
Research is important because it helps us analyze and evaluate problems, and once we are able to study them, we can hopefully come up with a solution. Students like you are expected to do and work on research so that you can provide a detailed study on a topic or phenomenon and propose a resolution to it. Doing research can be beneficial to other people or to your respective communities, making life a lot better.
Construct: For example, intelligence cannot be directly observed or measured, it is construct. –ideas, organizations, eventsData: Qualitative, quantitative
Measurement: Nominal variables (genotype, blood type, zip code, gender, race, eye color, political party.), Interval (a period of time between events or states, temperature -0 has value), Ordinal (ranking, by order-satisfaction rating (“extremely dislike”, “dislike”, “neutral”, “like”, “extremely like”)
Participants- sex, ethnicity, agePopulation- samples are drawn from populations
Questionnaire- open ended, close ended, mixed
Sample: Random, stratified, nonprobabilityTheory: A theory is not as specific as a hypothesis
